Embracing the Cut: An overdue update and the beginnings of the garment!
Hello fellow sewing enthusiasts and followers of my beginner sewing journey. It has been a while between blog posts and I apologise for my absence. While I am still getting my head around this blog writing thing, I have plenty of time to write but as per my personality I tend to procrastinate like crazy which results to me not writing up my blog posts and I need to do better. I will do better for you my fellow readers!
As I sit here finally writing out this blog post, I am looking through my gallery on my phone and can confirm that I have been so engrossed in my sewing over the past few weeks in my Monday evening Dressmaking classes that I have often forgotten to take video footage or photos of my progress. Of the content I have taken I have however posted a couple of reels on my Instagram page. Click that icon below and why not give it a follow whilst you are there!
Whilst I haven’t a working machine at home yet I have had the chance to do some hand sewing as you can see in the below reel. Performing a safety stitch on my pleats before my next class
I also experienced my first time using an overlocker (serger) during class a couple of weeks back. Intimidating at first, thankfully I didn’t have to thread it myself, but not as scary as I thought it would be once I got started.
This week saw the beginning of a new chapter in my sewing journey. Attending two make-up classes in a row this week saw me finally cutting into my pleather. This was exciting because I have had my material sitting in the studio since the second week of classes back in late January. As I picked up a rotary blade and started cutting, the thrill and excitement stirred in me as I couldn’t stop thinking that I was finally going to have the skirt that I have been dreaming of since I started.
With a week off from class to close out term 1, the sewing will continue. To stay loyal to my blog followers I will be sure to write posts on my progress with a few sneak peaks where I can.
There will also hopefully be some home sewing once I get the machines my friend Jacinta gave me back from being serviced and having their pedals replaced. What do you want to see me make for future projects? Sound off in the comments below!
